Olin Hall Galleries serves the Roanoke College campus and the greater community through exhibitions of contemporary works that showcase art created by emerging and established artists.
Olin Hall Galleries hosts four exhibitions each academic year that include local, national, and international artists. The works exhibited promote and enhance multifaceted experiences for all students and visitors. These exhibitions are supported by educational programming consisting of lectures and workshops.

Olin Hall Galleries is wheelchair accessible via ramp. There are accessible toilets in the venue. Wheelchair accessibility is only possible by entering the external glass doors facing the Olin Courtyard on 240 High Street. The roads immediately surrounding the gallery are cobblestone. The nearest accessible parking is across from the Cregger Center on High street. When accessing the gallery from Thompson Memorial Drive, this upper parking lot and Gallery will be on your left.

Olin Hall Galleries at Roanoke College offer year-round solo and group exhibitions, talks, and events featuring national and international artists across various media.
We prioritize collaborations with other departments to extend the impact beyond the gallery. Exhibitions are scheduled 1-2 years in advance, running from August to December and January to May, each lasting 4-5 weeks.
Artists attend opening receptions and give talks, with occasional workshops offered. Proposals for workshops are welcome. All styles and media, including curator proposals, are considered.

Parking:
Olin Hall Galleries is located at 240 High Street, Salem, VA, 24153. Visitors to the galleries are permitted to park in any visitor lots on campus and are not required to obtain a parking permit. Please reference this campus map for parking lot and building locations. The lots closest to the galleries are P10 (located on High Street, also known as Maxey Way, and Peery Drive) and P11 (located on Thompson Memorial Drive and Peery Drive). Visitors needing accessible parking should park in the P10 lot.
Accessing the galleries from lot P11:
Walk toward the large exterior stairwell and follow the signs directing to the recital hall. Take the set of stairs on the far left all the way up to enter the building. Use the interior stairwell on the left or the elevator to the get to the 3rd floor. After exiting the stairwell or the elevator, take the first left to walk down the ramp to enter Smoyer Gallery.
If the exterior doors to the building from the stairwell are mistakenly locked and you are unable to enter, please call Roanoke College Campus Safety 540-375-2310.
Accessing the galleries from lot P10:
Walk toward the Cregger Center (the large athletic building across from the lot) and turn left to follow the sidewalk down High Street. Take the third left to enter the Olin Courtyard and enter Smoyer Gallery through the glass doors.
Driving Instructions:From Interstate 81, North or South:
At second Salem exit, marked Roanoke College, Exit 140, exit onto Thompson Memorial Drive (VA 311), right turn toward Salem, and proceed approximately 1-1/2 miles to Roanoke College (Olin Hall) on the right. Turn right onto Peery Drive and take the first left into lot P11, or continue up the hill and turn left on High Street (also called Maxey Way). Take the first left into lot P10 for accessible parking.
From Roanoke on Electric Road (VA 419):
At Electric Road (VA 419) entering Salem from the south, turn left at East Main Street in Salem and continue approximately 3 miles to downtown Salem. At the intersection of East Main Street and Thompson Memorial Drive (VA 311) (and directional signs for I-81), turn right on Thompson Memorial Drive and proceed approximately two blocks to Roanoke College (Olin Hall). Turn left onto Peery Drive and take the first left into lot P11, or continue up the hill and turn left on High Street (also called Maxey Way). Take the first left into lot P10 for accessible parking.
From Roanoke entering Salem on East Main Street:
At the intersection of Electric Road (VA 419) Melrose Avenue becomes East Main Street. From this intersection continue approximately 3 miles on East Main Street to downtown Salem. At the intersection of East Main Street and Thompson memorial Drive (VA 311) (and directional signs for I-81), turn right on Thompson Memorial Drive and proceed approximately two blocks to Roanoke College (Olin Hall). Turn left onto Peery Drive and take the first left into lot P11, or continue up the hill and turn left on High Street (also called Maxey Way). Take the first left into lot P10 for accessible parking. -
The Juried Biennial at Olin Hall Galleries has proudly showcased art every two years since 1990. This esteemed exhibition celebrates artists within a 200-mile radius of Roanoke College, welcoming submissions in various fine arts media such as painting, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, video, and photography. Jurors are carefully chosen biennially from diverse backgrounds in the fine arts, ensuring a broad perspective and rich selection process.

The Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo Center for Art provides programming within Olin Hall Galleries and Roanoke College that responds to a global environment that is culturally diverse, technologically advancing and multifaceted. The Leonhardt-Cassullo Center brings regional and global art to the College and Community to create experiences that challenge, entertain and educate by hosting visiting artists and professionals to work with students and faculty as well as support internship opportunities for students nationwide.

In 1985, the Olin Foundation awarded Roanoke College with a grant of $2.75 million for construction of an arts center, it stipulated that the center serve as a base not only for its academic fine arts programs but for cultural outreach in Southwest Virginia. Olin Hall Galleries relies on the generous contributions of donors and foundations to support a robust schedule of exhibitions, programs, and events. Our Team
Gallery Director
Taliaferro Logan received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA in sculpture from The Art Institute of Chicago. During her time at Roanoke College since 2005, Logan has curated over 120 exhibitions and educational programs that support the campus community and creatively engage the wider region of South West Virginia. Logan currently maintains a studio practice including drawing, painting, sculpture, and installations constructed from her research of natural and family histories.

Assistant Gallery Director
Samantha Meyer was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and moved to Virginia to attend Roanoke College. She received her BA in Art History and Studio Art in 2022 and previously worked as the Curatorial Assistant Manager at the Taubman Museum of Art. At the Museum, she curated and co-curated exhibitions with emerging and established contemporary artists, as well as works from the Permanent Collection. Samantha has a profound passion for the visual arts. She aspires to engage audiences of every background with art’s powerful ability to inform us about our past and present and inspire our future.
